Eine besondere Sensation der Ausstellung ist die erstmalige Präsentation einer Teilrekonstruktion von Brancusis ikonischem Atelier außerhalb Frankreichs. Das Ensemble, das der Künstler 1957 dem französischen Staat vermacht hatte, gilt als Schlüssel zum Verständnis seines Werkes – als Raum künstlerischer Verdichtung, als Laboratorium der Form und als unmittelbares Zeugnis seines Schaffensprozesses. Mit über 150 Werken – Skulpturen, historischen Fotografien, Filmen und Archivalien – eröffnet die Ausstellung ab dem 20. März 2026 eine umfassende Begegnung mit einem der einflussreichsten Bildhauer des 20. Jahrhunderts.

The major retrospective “Brancusi” in the upper hall of the Neue Nationalgalerie has been captivating both the public and the art world since its opening. Developed in close cooperation with the Centre Pompidou Paris, the exhibition has already been repeatedly recognized by leading art and cultural media as one of the best exhibitions of the year. In doing so, the Neue Nationalgalerie continues its tradition of outstanding international collaborations – following the legendary “MoMA in Berlin” (2004) and the acclaimed partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of New York (“The Most Beautiful French Come from New York”, 2007) – now presenting Constantin Brancusi as a European classic of modernism in a new light.
A particular highlight of the exhibition is the first-ever presentation of a partial reconstruction of Brancusi’s iconic studio outside France. The ensemble, which the artist bequeathed to the French state in 1957, is considered key to understanding his work – a space of artistic concentration, a laboratory of form, and a direct testament to his creative process. Featuring more than 150 works – sculptures, historical photographs, films, and archival materials – the exhibition offers a comprehensive encounter with one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century, opening on 20 March 2026.
