His work has received numerous awards and funding, including the Young West Art Prize from the city of Recklinghausen, a work scholarship from the DAAD in London and the annual scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation.

Matthias Mansen has had several institutional solo exhibitions at home and abroad: Kunstverein Göttingen and in the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen (1997), Folkwang Museum Essen (2003), Musée d'arts et d'histoire, Geneva (2012), National Gallery of Art, Washington DC (2017), State Art Gallery Karlsruhe (2018).

His works are in the collections of many large copper engraving cabinets and institutions, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the copper engraving cabinet of the State Art Collections, Dresden, the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.

After spending several years in London, Paris and New York, Matthias Mansen has lived and worked in Berlin since 1994.
