Sound in the Garden

MARYAM.fyi's sound is unique: sometimes big and epic, sometimes playful, cheeky and direct. You can tell that she grew up in indie pop, but also has opera experience. “Sophisticated Indie-Pop” is how the German artist with Iranian roots describes her musical style. She is currently using her voice and platform to speak out for justice in her father's home country. In her own column for DIFFUS Magazine she writes about the events in Iran and also about what is currently happening in Germany. She talks about her privileges of being born and raised in Germany.

MARYAM.fyi co-curated a happening in support of the protesters in Iran in the Neue Nationalgalerie in 2022, where Iranian artists showed their solidarity with women in Iran and their fight for freedom with songs, poems, speeches and performances. In the last two years MARYAM.fyi has played at festivals in Germany and Switzerland. In September 2023 she will perform at the LOLLAPALOOZA Festival in Berlin.

The “Sound in the Garden” concert series follows on from the historical “ Jazz in the Garden ” format that took place in the sculpture garden of the Neue Nationalgalerie from the 1970s to the mid-1980s. From August 6th to September 4th, 2022, live concerts took place here for the first time since 1986: music and performance acts as diverse as Älice, Wandermüd, Imran Ayata & Bülent performed between the sculptures by Bernhard Heiligener, Henri Laurens and René Sintenis Kullukcu with Cavidan Ünal and the Deep Gold Band.

The sculpture garden has been open to visitors again since the renovation and reopening of the Neue Nationalgalerie in 2021.
