At first glance, the framed photograph appears very simple. The picture shows a corner of the room with reserved white walls and a dark floor, so the association of an exhibition room is obvious. Only the inscription "There is enough magnesium in the human body to take a photograph", which was placed in black letters on the left wall of the corner of the room, stands out. Upon closer inspection of the space in the photograph, the viewer notices that the work of art he is looking at at that moment is hanging in exactly the same place as the photo shows. Where the letters of the lettering could previously be seen, a photograph of the same can now be seen. Surprising punchlines like these are typical of Jan Timme's work. He also often plays with words and writes on walls. Through this, the visitor should not only become aware of his own existence in time and space, but also of the way in which he consumes within this art.
"Formally, Jan Timme draws on the visual languages of conceptual art - and he also transforms them. His installations, photos, objects and readymades are often closely related to the given space; one is drawn into the semantic network of the works through the interconnections of gaze, movement and contextual knowledge involved. They become protagonists as well as producers of aesthetic experience."
