The 96-part series "Muffled Faces" consists of a photo collection of masked people that Jürgen Klauke has been collecting since the terrorist attack at the Munich Olympics in 1972 and was first exhibited in 1999/2000. The creation of the work spans many years and the anonymity of the masked faces makes them icons of the media world. They are "...perhaps the real faces of the modern world" (Peter Weibel).

Jürgen Klauke, who asks questions about identity and gender in his entire oeuvre, has worked with masks and disguises, and thus explores the questions about the subject and responsibility, representation, has explored identity and Gender statements deleted. The viewer cannot classify them, cannot say when and where the photos were taken or published or who is hiding behind the masquerade. Especially since the recent terrorist attacks all over the world, the photos have become a poignant image of a global threat that has no face, no gender, no individual responsibility and has therefore become incomprehensible and incomprehensible.
