Last year, the artist Hans-Peter Feldmann died in Düsseldorf at the age of 82. The National Gallery has an extensive inventory of the artist's works, which can be used to represent his work using major works. The Marzona Collection contains important examples of Feldmann's early work. A large part was added in 2006, when the Friends of the National Gallery Foundation for Contemporary Art was able to acquire a collection of his works. This inventory was repeatedly enriched by generous donations from Paul Maenz, the artist's long-time gallerist. Together with Gerd de Vries, with whom Maenz ran his art shop in Cologne, he is now donating further works by Feldmann to the friends of the Nationalgalerie. In addition to personal works in which Maenz and de Vries' bond with the artist is expressed, the thirteen works also include now very rare painted sculptures from the 1970s. The assemblage “White Cube (Exhibitionist)” (2002) is also a later work by Feldmann, which was also shown at his 2006 exhibition at Hamburger Bahnhof. Thanks to this addition, the Nationalgalerie now has one of the largest collections of Hans-Peter Feldmann. – Sven Beckstette
