Ceal Floyer often uses everyday objects that she displays in a way that changes the awareness of our surroundings. In Projection it initially appears as if a nail driven into the wall is illuminated by a projector, with the light field resembling that of a slide projection. Only when you look closer do you realize that the nail, which can be seen at a height where you would expect it to be on the wall, is itself the actual object of the projection. With this work, which was shown in the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2003, Floyer alludes to the dematerialization of an art object, the material appearance of video and painting blurring. Projection seems to be everything in one.
