The FRIENDS of the National Gallery enjoy the special privilege of hosting the exhibition “Modigliani. Modern Views” can be visited exclusively outside of regular opening hours. This unique opportunity allows them to experience the artworks in a quiet and intimate atmosphere.
Almond-shaped, sightless eyes have made Modigliani's style unmistakable. With their stoic nobility, his portraits and nudes are icons of modernity. Like Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso, Modigliani provokes defensiveness and admiration. His early death encouraged the creation of legends. Only a few of his works are in German collections, Modigliani. Modern Views was the first exhibition in Germany in fifteen years. She revised Modigliani's image by showing him as an artist who focused his gaze on the emancipated woman.
