Location New National Gallery
In the spring of 2026, the new National Gallery in Berlin, in cooperation with the Center Pompidou in Paris, is planning the first major work show by the exceptional artist Constantin Brancusi in Germany for over 50 years. The exhibition will take place from March 20 to August 9, 2026 in the glass hall of the Mies van der Rohe Baus and will have a unique effect there.
Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) is one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. After traditional-academic beginnings, he found his own style in Paris from 1907. Its organic, reduced sculptures, made him pioneers of sculptural abstraction in the early 20th century. Brancusi's constant search for an artistic ideal manifests itself in the formal variations of fewer motifs and playing with changing materials and surfaces. He skillfully used specific base, light, movement as well as photography and film to stage his sculptures.
With over 150 sculptures, photographs, films and archive materials that are embedded in a time beam, the exhibition shows the most extensive overview of Brancusis versatile. In addition to main works such as "Der Kiss", "Bird in the Room", "Slumbering Muse" or "Infinite Column", the exhibition shows a partial reconstruction of the famous BRANCII studio, which has been seen outside of Paris for the first time since its handover to the French state in 1956.
The exhibition is made possible by the FRIENDS of the Nationalgalerie.
A special exhibition at the Nationalgalerie – Berlin State Museums.
