With a donation or testamentary donation to the Friends of the National Gallery, you are memorializing your love and enthusiasm for art and culture.

The history of the Nationalgalerie begins with an act of patronage. When the banker and consul Joachim Heinrich Wilhelm Wagener bequeathed his collection of contemporary art paintings to the Prussian king upon his death on January 18, 1861, he expressly expressed the desire for a “national gallery”. The acceptance of the donation by Wilhelm I is considered the founding act of the Nationalgalerie.

Many people from the FRIENDS circle have followed Wagener's example to this day. In their will or during their lifetime, they made a generous donation, endowment or donation to the National Gallery and thus made a lasting contribution to the continued existence and further development of this unique institution, even beyond their own lifetime, as the selection of examples listed below shows. We would like to thank all of these donors very much.

With a donation or testamentary donation to the Friends of the National Gallery, you are memorializing your love and enthusiasm for art and culture. At the same time, the FRIENDS honor this type of support in a special way and keep the memory of their founders alive as FRIENDS.
