Based on an idea by Schlingensief himself, it is a homage to Matthew Barney (The Cremaster Cycle) and the Viennese "actionist" Otto Mühl (Art and Revolution). As in his previous work "Atta Atta" (Volksbühne Berlin, 2003) and in the subsequent "Attabambi Pornoland" (Schauspielhaus Zurich, 2004), in "Bambiland" Schlingensief addresses the breakout of artistic expressions from their traditional boundaries. For Schlingensief, the costume was more than an “outfit”; it was a much-quoted synonym for his artistic syncretism, which he continued to adhere to in later productions.
